World community grid in the background
When I first started my PhD, I quickly learnt that the typical computer user only uses 10% of CPU on average. So these days, I always have a http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ process running in the background of my desktop, hence on average, my CPU probably runs at about 90%. I wonder if I am being more efficient. By efficient, I mean that, I hope that running my computer at 90% all the time is not equivalent to 9x the power consumption. Let's say, I only double my power consumption by running world community grid in the background, then I would say that's a success. Maybe I should quantify that one day. Check out my stats, not impressive, but better than nothing
